The treasurer’s figures were emailed prior to the board meeting with the Activity Fund at $37,898.93 & Admin Fund at $3,617.78. Lion B. Byers said the license plates for the trailer and the insurance haven’t come out of these figures yet. Lion L. Hawn made a motion to accept and Lion K. Burnworth seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Service Chair Report: Lion Sh. Stormes
My Very Own Blanket District Project – Lion Sh. Stormes sent an update through Lion J. Greene that blankets have been dropped off at Noble and Monroe Counties and that we still have the rest to take to Morgan County. We did not donate to Washington County, as they were covered by the Beverly and Scenic Hills clubs and were stocked on blankets. Several people volunteered to get the blankets to Morgan County during their open business hours.
EVE Work Day Update – Lion Sh. Stormes sent an update through Lion J. Greene that the contact who’d originally reached out about this is no longer there, so we’re still trying to make contact and figure out what they might need/want us to do for a work day.
Roadside Cleanup – Lion K. Burnworth said the next roadside cleanup is scheduled for March 22nd at 9am. We’ll have a guest DG from Utah, Thomas Gilmore, who will be in town and join us for trash pick up. RSVP to Lion Kyle.
2nd VP Report: Lion B. Hadfield
Bridge of Heroes Update: Lion St. Stormes said sales for flags are open and had flyers at the meeting. Forms have been emailed to all that sponsored a flag last year and it’s been posted to Facebook and to the website. The railer has been purchased and is in the process of getting wrapped. We have tags and insurance and Pioneer Pipe will do the brackets to hold the flags. We are still looking to do a work day in May which may/may not be open to the public depending on whether or not the trailer is ready. Please ask for corporate sponsorships when possible. We’ll also focus heavily on First Friday’s again this year. Lion L. Hawn said the new insurance package policy includes coverage for the building, trailer, land, and contents and the flags are covered anywhere they are, including while on display. If we were to have a large weather event where all/most of the flags were destroyed/lost, we’d be covered.
Father’s Day Car Show: Lion B. Hadfield said Lion S. McCarthy didn’t provide an update but is looking for members to be on the committee.
1st VP Report: Lion P. Byers
Sight saving 1 Applications, 1 approved , 0 denied, 0 referred 0 pending. Lion J. Greene said Huntington Bank reached out that their box was full, so she did go pick those up.
President’s Report: Lion J. Greene – Lion J. Greene said Lion R. Johnson sent out an email earlier this week that they are looking for a new Zone 6 Chair and if anyone is interested, please let her know. You much have been a President or Secretary of the club to qualify. Lion L. Hawn shared his experience as Zone Chair and said it’s a great role.
We also approved to be a Bronze Sponsor for the Chamber of Commerce Dinner next Monday and that comes with 2 tickets and a Sponsor Table. It was agreed that Lion S. Camacho and Lion St. Stormes would go on behalf of the club and bring materials for the table to advertise Lions and Bridge of Heroes.
LCIF Coordinator: Lion O. Cartmell said that he just received the annual report for LCIF’s work last year and will send a link out to the club members.
Community & Youth: Lion B. Burnworth
Lion B. Burnworth said Lion R. Ferguson reminded him that we do typically support the Boys and Girls Club Annual Dinner with a $500 donation. Lion R. Ferguson made a motion to donate $500. Lion J. Schneider seconded the motion. There was some discussion if we bought a table and it was confirmed we usually sponsor the Youth of the Year table. The motion passed.
Lion B. Burnworth said he’s continued to research the free meal locations that we voted on/approved to donate to last month. He contacted Harvest of Hope for help and has identified at least 5 still in progress (a 6th was added by Lion J. Green) and will confirm if there are anymore and work to get names/address information to Lion B. Byers for checks.
We received an email from Marietta Main Street for a $100 flower basket sponsorship. Lion B. Burnworth approved that and we confirmed during the meeting so it was in the minutes.
Lion B. Burnworth said he became aware of an opportunity for the club regarding revitalizing one of the old baseball practice fields in Devola. For $1,000 the field can be named Marietta Noon Lions field and a steel sign will be made to hang on the backstop. We would also contribute a spring work day clean up each year to help maintain the field and be part of our environmental efforts. It’s estimated it may take around $4,000 to redo the field, backstop, fencing, etc. with some hard labor and he issued a personal challenge to all members for individual donations to pad our club donation. Lion B. Burnworth made a motion for the $1,000 club donation. Lion S. Camacho seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lions Hawn, Ferguson, Marshall, R. Burnworth, B. Burnworth, and S. Camacho all pledged individual donations.
Lion S. Camacho mentioned that there was a request in the Treasurer correspondence for a raffle basket/items toward BrAva Mom Prom’s event and made a motion for $100 or less raffle basket for this event. Lion K. Hadfield seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion S. Camacho will handle this for the club and submit receipts to Lion B. Byers.
Membership (50) Lion J. Greene said we’re still at 50 members and she did have a guest at the last lunch meeting and will follow up with them. She also said that we’ll look to do the next Lions Fellowship even on March 21st and will send out details for anyone who wants to join.
Publicity: Lion S. Camacho said that Lion P. Walter did get the BoH info on the website with the Zeffy payment link. It’s been posted to Facebook as well. We will need pics of the community meal donations somehow and pics about the baseball field before/after, etc.
Scholarship: Lion B. Ferguson said there is no update but that Lion J. Greene will need to present the scholarships and speak about Lions when that comes up.
Old Business:
Shirt Order Update: Lion S. Camacho did pick up the order on Saturday and forgot to send them with someone that will be at tonight’s board meeting, so she she’ll bring them to the next lunch meeting.
District Convention Recap/Awards: Lion J. Greene said convention was this past weekend and we had some members in attendance and the club did get some awards. She ran through the list of awards we received including Excellent President, Excellent Secretary, Excellent Treasurer, Ohio Lions Foundation Ron Keller Award, Russ Williams Chapter Award, Service Award, Humanitarian Award, recognition from the Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank, Ohio Lions Pediatric Cancer Foundation, the Big Cheese Award etc. Lion R. Johnson received a Council of Governors award for her work as Zone Chair and Lion S. Camacho got a Kindness award. Lion S. Camacho shared that the speaker was an International Director from Canada who spoke about being part of a cyber club that never meets in person, all members’ dues are sponsored each year by a benefactor, and it’s really just focused on doing service in your community—whatever that looks like and inspires you.
New Business:
Zone Meeting Reminder – The next zone meeting is on 3/13 in Chesterhill starting at 6:30. RSVP to Lion Kyle by Monday the 10th. So far she has Lion R. Ferguson, Lion R. Johnson, Lion S. Camacho, Lion J. Green, Lion K. Burnworth rsvpd. Lion S. Marshall said she’d also attend.
Lion S. Marshall said she was contacted by the organizers of the Earth Day Event to see if we’re interested in participating again like we did 2 years ago with the bird feeders. It’s on April 19th from 10-1 and she said she’ll chair this project and will let the club know if she needs anything.
We did Good of the order and the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Secretary Lion K. Burnworth
