LCIF Coordinator: Lion O. Cartmell said LCIF won the 2025 António Champalimaud Vision Award for its work in restoring sight and preventing blindness worldwide. António was a very rich man from Portugal who made his money in cement and created this Foundation in his will as part of his legacy. What we do as Lions is recognized internationally. The world is tough right now—please consider giving to LCIF if you can. Lion R. Ferguson added that LCIF recently granted $100,000 to Jamaica to help start rebuilding after their recent devestation.
Community & Youth: Lion B. Burnworth
Lion B. Burnworth said he did not receive any requests via email. He did say that we agreed to participate in the Christmas parade which will consist of someone pulling the flag trailer with it lit up so people can see the logos and barcode as well as magnets on the truck pulling the trailer. He does not yet know if he’ll be in town to be the one pulling it.
Lion J. Greene made a motion to donate $500 each to the Gospel Mission and Marietta Area Food Pantry in light of ongoing SNAP benefit issues. Lion B. Burnworth amended the motion to $1,000 each and Lion Sh. Stormes seconded the motion. There was discussion about them getting more help this time of year around the holidays and it might be better used in Jan/Feb but it was decided that we can approve and cut the checks and they can use as they need, either now for SNAP stretching them thin or later. The motion passed.
Lion B. Burnworth made a motion to donate $500 to the Marine Corps Coats for Kids Program. Lion K. Burnworth seconded the motion. There was discussion that there is a local Coats for Kids program through RSVP through the Senior Center, so the motion was amended to stick with the local organization. Lion J. Greene will get the contact/check info to Lion B. Byers. The motion passed.
Membership (47) Lion G. Ingram
Lion G. Ingram said he sent out 6-7 free lunch letters to members we haven’t seen in a while and will do so again this month. He also said that Lion J. Greene put together a nice new tri-fold flyer (and passed it around for those in attendance to see). He’s sent it to Lion P. Byers and Lion S. Camacho and would like to get them printed up so we can hand them out. Lion R. Burnworth said we are able to hand out flyers at the Peoples Bank Theatre Christmas Carol Show as part of our advertising with them. Lion J. Greene will contact Marty’s Print Shop to get a quote on printing for the color tri-fold flyers so we don’t have sticker shock on 300-600 flyers and will report back so we can decide how many we want to print.
