August 7, 2024

Lions in Attendance: St. Stormes, Sh. Stormes, S. Camacho, J. Schneider, G. Ingram, B. Burnworth, K. Burnworth, J. Greene, L. Hawn, B. Hadfield, K. Hadfield, T. Henderson, O. Cartmell, K. Boersma, L. Peterson (via Zoom), T. Davis (via Zoom), and S. Marshall (via Zoom)
Secretary Report: Lion K. Burnworth
The minutes from the July board meeting were emailed to the club. Lion S. Camacho made a motion to accept the minutes. Lion K. Boersma seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report: Lion B. Byers
The treasurer’s figures were emailed prior to the board meeting with the Activity Fund at $44,364.84 & Admin Fund at $4,554.27. There was no report about dues since Lion B. Byers was not present. Lion J. Greene reminded Lions to please get your dues paid. Lion O. Cartmell asked for clarification on the $2,000 line for People’s Bank. Lion K. Burnworth explained that was the prize money and start up cash for the golf outing. Lion L. Hawn made a motion to accept the report and Lion Sh. Stormes seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Service Chair Report: Lion Sh. Stormes
Lion Sh. Stormes said that she wants to challenge all members of the club to do 100 minutes per month of service in honor of our 100th Anniversary Year. She will be asking members to report their activity at each board meeting. She said we will be collecting school supplies for teachers as a service project. She is waiting for a contact to get back to her with a list of requested items, so she’ll send out an email/list when she has it. Stay tuned for further details. If you have ideas for service, please let her know. Lion J. Greene did share field day for Marietta Schools info with her from the local newsletter.
Roadside Cleanup – Lion K. Burnworth said we will do our next roadside cleanup on August 24th. She will be taking RSVPs.
2nd VP Report: Lion B. Hadfield
Bridge of Heroes Update: Lion St. Stormes said we sold 9 more flags since the last report, so we are at 163 sponsored flags, which is up from 148 last year. Please continue to promote flag sponsorships. The next installation will be for Patriot’s Day on 9/11 and that’s pretty close to Sternwheel weekend so we’re going to put them up just a tad early as advertising that weekend to promote more sales. The flags will go up on September 5th at 9am. He is also looking into a trailer or rolling rack solution to either load the flags directly onto a trailer that can be backed into the building or have them be on a rack that can be rolled onto a trailer.
Golf Outing Update: Lion K. Burnworth said we are at 14 teams for the golf outing but had hoped for 20. She said we’ll still have a great event and should raise around $3,000. She thanked any club members who recruited a team, donated money or door prize, solicited for a hole sponsorship, etc.

President’s Report: Lion J. Greene wanted to re-emphasize Lion Shelly’s call for 100 minutes of service each month per member in honor of our Anniversary.
LCIF Coordinator: Lion O. Cartmell said he has no report.
Community & Youth: Lion B. Burnworth
Lion B. Burnworth said that he didn’t have any emailed requests for donations to be reviewed. If you see a need in the community or get a request for a donation, please email him the information to review. He did make a motion for $250 for our annual Soccer League sponsorship. It’s good visibility for the club. Lion O. Cartmell seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion B. Burnworth also made a motion for $200 for the Marietta Youth Football program. He explained that we’d done a large donation a while back to help replace their expired equipment but that the individuals who run it had created a tackle bar program which is a cross between flag football and tackle football and that there is a need for equipment. They have an equipment replacement schedule so that the expenses don’t all occur in one year. Lion K. Boersma seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Lion Sh. Stormes noticed we’d done a lot for athletics recently, having donated to the athletic department last month and wondered if we should be spreading the money around. Lion B. Burnworth said he’s happy to review any suggestions/donation requests. He said he’d support the school supply drive financially through the club if that was something that was needed.
Membership (54) Lion J. Greene said that former Lion, Pat Walter, had asked to re-join the club. Lion S. Camacho said that we would not be assessed the rejoin fee since she was coming back less than a year since she’d resigned. She had been dropped in good standing with the club after leaving due to her health. Lion B. Burnworth made a motion to re-instate her as a member. Lion Sh. Stormes seconded the motion and the motion passed..
Publicity: Lion S. Camacho said that if you have something to publicized, please let her know. If you need help with fundraisers, publicity, press releases, WTAP, please let her know. She won’t do it automatically because she doesn’t want to step on toes but is happy to do it if we ask. She also said that our website is back up and running with Pat Walter’s help. Please be sure to check out the page and let Pat know if anything needs updated or if anything needs added. Lion S. Camacho said she’d also reached out to the Chamber of Commerce. They used to put our requests on the chamber email blast but when she reached out about the golf outing, they said they couldn’t do that anymore. Other clubs have had success/growth by being a member of the chamber. The lowest rate is $270/year and it’s a great marketing opportunity for the club for all of our events and for the visibility to pull in new business members. This would be an admin expense that could come out of the marketing budget. Lion S. Camacho made a motion to join the Chamber for $270/year. Lion O. Cartmell seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Old Business:
Save the Date – 100th Anniversary Celebration – Lion J. Greene said she thinks she did have communication from Lion B. Ferguson that he’d sent the final payment to secure the venue, but we’ll follow up on that. The committee met recently and everything is coming along. The event is on Sunday, October 13th. Social Hour will be from 4-5, Dinner from 5-6, with the program/presentations starting at 6. The caterer will likely be Marietta College with an Italian buffet, including appetizers and desserts. Projected cost is $25/person and there will be a cash bar. Speakers will include IPID Ron Keller, Lion M. Buell, Lion, B. Ferguson. If you have Lions memorabilia that we can use for the 100th, please give it to Lion Sh. Stormes who has agreed to handle that portion for the 100th. She will have a bin at the Lions building labeled for the 100th if it’s easier for people to drop items off there.
Washington Electric CoOp Family Fun Day – Lion J. Schneider said it was a great event. He was assigned to child games and that was okay until the ax throwing truck arrived. Lion J. Greene said the employees all had a great time and she was grateful for our help. Lion K. Burnworth said the $250 check for our work did arrive at the PO Box.
New Business:
Steps 5K; Lion S. Camacho said she is the Executive Director for OLPCF after the former director was elected to council chair. The STEPS and district project brought in over $5,000 last year and ,with all of the other contributions, it was over $15,000 for the year. They’ve added a Journey of Hope Fellowship for $300 which directly impacts the gas card program. Donations to OLPCF can be designated toward that or the Journey of Hope Award. Last year we chose to be a silver sponsor for the STEPS walk as part of our budgeted annual OLPCF giving since this event also means our club is listed on the printed tshirts and marketing materials for the event. Lion B. Burnworth made a motion to donate $500 to the STEPS Walk for OLPCF. Lion G. Ingram seconded the motion. During discussion, Lion J. Green said we should do $600 so we can earn 2 Journey of Hope fellows since we already earned a Journey of Hope ($500) with our bar crawl donation. She amended the motion to $600. Lion K. Hadfield seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion K. Burnworth filled out the form for a Silver Sponsorship and Mile Marker sponsor for a total of $600 and designated the donation as 2 Journey of Hope Fellowships. She will give the form to Lion B. Byers to send with payment
Zone Meeting – Lion J. Greene said we are hosting the August 22nd zone meeting at Washington Electric Co-Op and it starts at 7pm with social “hour” staring at 6:30pm. Lion K. Burnworth will be taking RSVPs for this.
Marietta Noon Lions Website – Lion S. Camacho mentioned this earlier under publicity, so she just said to check it out at mariettanoonlions.org.
Shirt Order – Lion S. Camacho will be doing another shirt order for the club and it will include a special 100th anniversary edition as well as our regular Marietta Noon Lions logo. She will send out information as she has it available.
Rose Sale – Lion J. Greene said the Rose Sale is fast approaching and Lion T. Davis has agreed to chair the event again this year. She will contact the florist tomorrow. Lion J. Greene reminded the club of the previous discussion about the new tax rules that require us to pay a sales tax fee since this is and end product that we are passing on to the consumer that is not consumable. The tax fee is based on our invoice from the florist and can be paid at the county.
Lion K. Boersma said she has tons of old trophies that anyone is welcome to use by replacing the topper or engraved portion if anyone has a need.
