2nd VP Report: Lion St. Stormes
Bridge of Heroes Update: Lion B. Byers said he has taken the trailer twice to get the sponsor decals applied but there’s always been someone parked there, so he’s trying again this Monday to drop off at Discount Signs.
Rose Sale – Lion T. Davis has agreed to head up this fundraiser again for us this year. Stay tuned for additional information. Lion P. Byers will try to have her nail down the rose delivery date since Buell and Ferguson will be out of town/busy on October 17th.
1st VP Report: Lion B. Hadfield
Sight saving 0 Applications, 0 approved , 0 denied, 0 referred 0 pending.
Lion B. Hadfield was not present and provided no report. Lion G. Ingram said that they took 1,227 glasses in 7 boxes from ECA to the Lions building and that he also picked up at Dr. Cooper’s office and their box was overflowing (and it also has a tag for Reno Lions and Delmar Doan that should be updated).
President’s Report: Lion P. Byers
No Report
LCIF Coordinator: Lion O. Cartmell said $100,000 was sent to Texas Lions clubs for their flooding and the Carolinas are now flooding and both Canada and California are on fire. The need remains great—please donate to LCIF if you can.
Community & Youth: Lion B. Burnworth
Please email Lion B. Burnworth at brandonburnworth@me.com with any donation requests. Whatever causes you’d like to support, he’s happy to hear the pitch and bring it before the club for consideration, but these ideas come from everyone.
Lion B. Burnworth also said that he finally has the paint for the baseball sign and will get that going and we are also invited to throw out a first pitch and watch a game when the season resumes.
Membership (50) Lion G. Ingram said he reached out to Lion J. Greenup about his request to drop membership and is waiting to hear back. He reviewed the membership roster and there are about 20 members we haven’t seen in many months. He will likely offer a free lunch, again, for those that come to a lunch meeting who we haven’t seen in a while. He also wants to work on an updated flyer for recruitment. Lion K Burnworth said one exists that Lion J. Greene created and we can have her share that so it can be updated instead of starting from scratch. Lion G. Ingram said we need to brag more and be specific about what we do in the community like the baseball field, GoPacks, BrAva, etc. Lion B. Burnworth said a committee met on ideas and the social outing was successful to pull in many members and we need to get another one scheduled—will anyone host or will we meet at a restaurant? Lion B. Byers said we should capitalize on First Friday gatherings since so many in the community come out anyway. It would be beyond having a BoH booth but could be a community service project like packing need backs, collecting glasses/going through the donated glasses to throw away the cases, etc. A way to engage the community and show them what we really do.
Publicity: Lion S. Camacho was not present and there is no report. As always, if you need something advertised with local media or on facebook, please send her the information.
Scholarship: Lion B. Ferguson said he has not received an updated balance on the fund yet. The 2 scholarship winners will be present at this Friday’s lunch.
Old Business:
Washington Electric Co-Op Family Fun Day Recap – Lions T. Henderson and R. Ferguson said we were well represented. Everyone worked hard and was wearing their Lions shirts and the company seemed to appreciate our help.
New Business:
MACC Membership – Lion B. Byers said we’ve been a member for a year and the renewal came through. He said we should go ahead and pay the invoice. Lion R. Ferguson said to go ahead and send it. (We should vote on this as soon as we have a quorum so it’s accounted for.)
Adopt-A-Highway Renewal – Lion K. Burnworth got the documents from ODOT to renew our roadside cleanup permit for another 2 years. This has been completed. She will send out a link for the safety video that all members who participate in roadside cleanups should view before volunteering.
People’s Bank Theater Program Ad – Lion P. Byers passed around a People’s Bank Program and showed the Rotary ad on the back of the program. The general consensus is that it does get seen by a target audience for membership and that there is down time, so most people do read the flyer cover to cover and it would likely be worth the expense to advertise the club. Lion B. Byers will get cost information for us and present his findings so we can make a decision and vote on it.
Zone Meeting – Lion K. Burnworth said the next Zone Meeting is on August 14th at the Belpre Nazarene Church located at 1301 Putnam House Drive in Belpre and that anyone attending needs to send their RSVPs to Lion S. Camacho by Friday August 8th. Social Hour starts at 6:30 and the meeting starts at 7:00pm.
OH7 Steps 5K Walk/Run – Lion T. Henderson wanted to remind the club that we’re hosting the District 5K STEPS walk here in Marietta again this year on September 13th. Registration is $25.00 and tshirts are guaranteed for anyone who signs up by September 11th. The first 50 people who sign up also get the STEPS pin. He’s been promoting it and encouraged the rest of the club to do so as well.
250th July 4th Celebration – Lion R. Ferguson said he’s part of the 250th Celebration planning committee and they’ve been kicking around the idea of a community picnic on July 4th next year, funded in part by all of the service organizations. They meet again this month and he will get more information but he wanted to make sure we were interested as a club as he heads into that meeting. The consensus is that we are very interested.
We did Good of the order:
Another reminder to pay your dues
We will need a work day on the bridge before the next round of flags goes up – stay tuned.
Please keep Lion Maribeth Browne in your prayers as she continues her treatments.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Secretary Lion K. Burnworth
