2nd VP Report: Lion B. Hadfield
Bridge of Heroes Update: Lion St. Stormes said the thank you luncheon for last year’s sponsors went well. Many had wonderful things to say about the bridge. The trailer wrap is done and looks nice and came in way under projected budget (at $1,900 instead of 4-5k). We still have to get the sponsor logos for the trailer and those will be about $40 each. The banners/tags will be ordered tomorrow. Lion B. Byers is working with Pioneer Pipe for the brackets in the trailer but those likely will not be installed prior to the Memorial Day date for putting up flags. The maintenance day happened this past Monday so thank you to those who came out and worked for the 2 hours to get all of the flags prepped. So far we have 68 flag sponsorships and we usually have about 100 so far. It may be hard to keep tapping into the same sponsors year over year, so please get the word out and share any ideas you have for increasing sponsorships. Corporate sponsors are going great so far with ~$7,000. Flags will go up for Memorial Day on May 22nd but the date to take them down has not yet been determined. Lion St. Stormes and Lion R. Ferguson will be at the First Friday event in June and would like additional folks to come on out and help them if we’re available. Please share sponsorships on social media.
Father’s Day Car Show: Lion B. Hadfield said Lion S. McCarthy didn’t provide an update. Lion K. Burnworth said there was another committee meeting on 5/6 but she wasn’t present to report details.
.
1st VP Report: Lion P. Byers
Sight saving 3 Applications, 1 approved , 0 denied, 02referred 0 pending.
President’s Report: Lion J. Greene – Lion J. Greene said the new Zone Chair, Greg Randolph, had reached out to her about our club hosting the February zone meeting in 2026. She agreed but we won’t know dates for a while. Lion Greg will communicate with Lion P. Byers with those details.
Lion J. Greene also said she’d reached out to Betsy Cook for more details on the Living Democracy Community Fest that had been brought up last month. It’s on Saturday, 6/14, from 11-4 and the theme is Flags, Freedom, and Constitution. It is a non political event. They were looking for us to set up a booth or to provide volunteers. There was some discussion in the room and it didn’t appear that anyone had availability for either that day. With no manpower to participate, especially the day before our car show, Lion J. Greene will let Betsy know we can’t participate this year but to keep us in mind next year, as it does coincide well with our BoH project.
LCIF Coordinator: Lion O. Cartmell said that he received an April newsletter with details on LCIF projects and it’s quite extensive. He did enjoy reading about a large project in India to bring water to a village of 750 people that would allow them to work/farm year-round. He’ll share the newsletter when the minutes are sent.
Community & Youth: Lion B. Burnworth
Lion B. Burnworth was not present, but Lion R. Ferguson said he’d sent info about Historic Harmar and Right Path 5K. Lion R. Ferguson made a motion to donate $100 to each of those. Lion K. Boersma seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Membership (50) Lion J. Greene said we’re still at 50 members and she has no additional report.
Publicity: Lion S. Camacho was not present but sent a report that she continues to schedule regular posts on Facebook and did issue a press release with pictures about our Bridge of Heroes corporate sponsor appreciation lunch. Lion St. Stormes and R. Ferguson will be be on Talk of the Town tomorrow morning to talk BoH and she plans to send another press release about BoH to see if it gets picked up.
Scholarship: Lion B. Ferguson said there is no update but we will be giving out 2 $2,000 scholarships this month and that the committee does a good job finding students that fit our varied criteria.
Old Business:
Save the Date – June 29th at 4pm will be the Officer Installation and Awards Ceremony at the K of C hall. Meat will be provided but everyone else should bring a potluck/side dish.
New Business:
2nd reading of officers: Lion J. Greene completed the second reading of officers and asked for any additional nominations to which there was no response. ( President: Peggy Byers, 1st VP: Bob Hadfield, 2nd VP: Steve Stormers, Recording Secretary: Kyle Burnworth, Reporting Secretary: Sara Camacho, Service Chair: Shelly Stormes, Treasurer: Bob Byers, Asst Treasurer: Bob Ferguson, Membership Chair: Greg Ingram, Marketing Chair: Sara Camacho, Community/Youth Chair; Brandon Burnworth, LCIF Coordinator: Ohlen Cartmell, 2 Year Board Members: Tom Henderson, Kristi Hadfield, and Lee Peterson, 1 Year Board Members: Kathy Boersma, Sidney Marshall, and Jim Schneider, Tail Twister: Randy Burnworth, Asst. Tail Twister: Becca Johnson, Lion Tamer: Brittani Merrit.)
Lion K. Boersma expressed concerns with visibility of individual club members in the community and said we should try to pair our checks with volunteer help whenever possible like actually working some of the free meal events we just donated to. She also said that she thinks someone should visit local small businesses and talk to them one on one and try to invite them to meetings to join our club. We used to be a much larger club and had more business people in our club for networking. It was also discussed that we should have the organizations we donate to come to a lunch meeting to pick up the check so they can see what Lions is about and for greater publicity in our giving.
Lion J. Greene said we do have a prospective member who reached out to us, Jim Caldwell. He needs a sponsor and is Lion J. Schneider’s neighbor, so Lion J. Greene will reach out to him when he’s back in town to see if he’ll sponsor Mr. Caldwell.
Lion O. Cartmell said Harvest of Hope is a wonderful organization that does so much in our community and turns what would be waste into great meals to serve our community. They are having a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on October 11th of 2025 and a Silver Sponsorship is $500 and gets 4 invites to the event. Lion O. Cartmell made a motion to donate $500 to this event and Lion St. Stormes seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Lion T. Henderson said he recently met with Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley and spoke with the Executive Director Michelle Curtis asking if they did any work in Washington County. They do and he asked if she’d be willing to come and speak to our club. He passed along info to Lion J. Greene who will reach out to see if she can speak at a meeting soon.
Lion R. Ferguson said he’s on a committee that is working on the state celebration of the country’s 250th celebration in 2026 and there is interest in 4 250th celebration flags being included on the Bridge of Heroes that year. It’s still in the works and may not come together but he did ask Nancy Hollister if she’d sponsor any of her family members on the bridge and may have gotten some individual flag sponsorships from that. All you have to do is ask and they usually say yes.
Lion K. Boersma said she has lots of smaller flags from a previous event that can be used for anything. Lion R. Ferguson will pick them up from her house and they’ll be distributed during First Friday events.
Lion J. Greene said next month’s board meeting will be at 6pm and will be held at Lion Steve and Shelly Stormes’ house for her final board meeting. She will provide food and drink. More details including the address will be sent out later.
We did Good of the order and the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Secretary Lion K. Burnworth
