STEPS 5K – Lion B. Burnworth made a motion to donate $500 to the OLPCF STEPS 5K which gets us advertised on the marketing and the tshirts and also serves as our annual donation. Lion K. Burnworth seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Lion B. Burnworth also mentioned that the Daily Bread Kitchen has advertised that they are struggling to meet the needs of their free weekly meal, as they are currently serving more than 300 meals a week. He wanted to know if we’d be interested in doing a food drive to help out. Lion J. Greene said we’d take that on as a service collection and she’ll send out an email. Their most useful staples are Green Beans, Baked Beans, Macaroni Noodles, Fruit Cocktail, Pasta Sauce, and Applesauce and they’d be looking for the very large cans located at Sam’s Club, Walmart and Kroger. Please bring donations to the Sept 26th lunch meeting or October 1st board meeting.
Membership (50) Lion G. Ingram
Lion G. Ingram said he received a resignation letter from Dave and Donna Fairchild in addition to the previous one received from Jess Greenup. Lion K. Burnworth made a motion to drop all 3 members in good standing. Lion S. Camacho seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion G. Ingram said he’d previously mentioned inviting members who haven’t attending in a while to a lunch and asked for a budget for 10 lunches from the admin account to cover this cost. He made a motion and Lion B. Burnworth seconded it. The motion passed. Lion G. Ingram also talked about his ideas for a tri-fold flyer and Lion S. Camacho said an updated one exists and she’ll email him a copy to see if it will work or if it needs some changes. Lion G. Ingram also said we need a feeder system for younger members and talked about restarting the Leo club. Lion S. Camacho said the issue has been not having an “in” with the school because there isn’t a teacher who will take the contract to lead the club and we need one in order to have a club there. Lion K. Boersma said she’d sent a email to Lion G. Ingram explaining the history of some of the members who don’t show up anymore and the efforts they did put in when they were very involved and moved through the chairs.
Publicity: Lion S. Camacho
Old Halloween Parade Signs – Lion S. Camacho asked if there was any interest in the Ravenswood Lions Club either borrowing, purchasing, or just having our old Halloween parade signs since we no longer have our event. Lion J. Green made a motion for them to borrow the signs with an option to purchase. Lion T. Henderson seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Scholarship: Lion B. Ferguson said he has not received an updated balance on the fund yet, so no report.
Old Business:
MACC Membership – The membership is $275 for the year. Lion R. Ferguson made a motion to pay the dues. Lion J. Greene seconded the motion and the motion passed.
People’s Bank Theater Program Ad – covered under President’s Report
New Business:
Multi-Club Jeep Ride Fundraiser – Lion S. Camacho said the Gallipolis Lions Club would like to put on a multi-club, multi-zone, jeep ride fundraiser to benefit one of the eye sight foundations and said they’re wanting to know if we’d be interested in hosting a stop in Marietta and provide 1 club member to serve on the committee. There was some discussion and the consensus is that we are interested. Lion S. Camacho said she’d serve on the committee for our club and will let them know we are interested and come back to us with more details as she has them. The Jeep Ride would likely be in the Spring.
District Cheese & Sausage Sale – Lion K. Burnworth said the annual District Convention fundraiser is back and it’s the cheese and sausage sale again. This is something she usually heads up for the club but the important date deadlines and pick up at the Cabinet Meeting all fall when she’ll be laid up after surgery, so she asked if we were interested in participating again and, if so, would someone volunteer to take this over? Lion J. Greene said she’d collect orders from the club and make the pick up. Lion Sh. Stormes said she’d coordinate the teacher meat and cheese trays that usually go along with this project. Stay tuned for an email from Lion J. Greene.
Lion K. Boersma asked if any members would be interested in helping with the Halloween in the Park event and having it be a combined event with Lions and Civitan. There were some questions about when it was happening, what was needed, etc. and we did not have those details. Lion K. Boersma will reach out to Connie Grimes and gather information. We also typically donate $500 to this event but it was discussed that attendance is down there and we may want to scale back the donation. Lion R. Ferguson said we should hold off on voting on that donation until next board meeting after Lion K. Boersma has more details.
Lion B. Burnworth said he was recently at a Knights of Columbus meeting and they are looking for a partner to sell tickets with and the participating club would get a portion of the kickback. He said he’d present it to the club to see if we were interested. There was discussion that we could get these tickets on our own as our own fundraiser instead of partnering with the Knights and that the timeline also coincides with our Rose Sale and it shouldn’t compete with our own Lions fundraiser. The club is not interested and Lion B. Burnworth will let the Knights know.
We did Good of the order.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Secretary Lion K. Burnworth
