Service Chair Report: Lion Sh. Stormes/Lion J. Greene
Lion J. Greene said she reached out to EVE about making treat bags for the residents for Valentine’s Day and by supporting their mission with some of their most needed items. While they couldn’t give specific numbers for safety reasons, they said approx. 4 adults and 4 children at the moment with their greatest need being tp, pt, and trash bags. Lino J. Greene made a motion for $400 to purchase supplies for Valentine’s treat bags for 12 people (6 adult, 6 kid) and the tp, pt, and trash bags. Lion Sh. Stormes seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion J. Greene will buy the items and submit receipts for reimbursement. She will assemble the bags and reach out if she needs help. They’ll be delivered next week.
2nd VP Report: Lion St. Stormes
Bridge of Heroes Update: Lion St. Stormes said the corporate sponsor lunch will be on Friday, February 27th. Everything is taken care of except he will need volunteers the day of at 11am to decorate the room as we have in the past. He will be updating the QR code for sponsorships with Lion J. Greene so that flyers are ready to go. Lion J. Greene will take flyers to this month’s Coffee Chat to solicit sponsors there. Lion St. Stormes also mentioned that there may be grant money available from Ohio 250 that Lion S. Camacho will look into as it relates to our bridge project.
Bar Crawl – Lion St. Stormes said this committee meeting didn’t happen before the board meeting—he forgot to send out a reminder for those folks to show up early. He asked if we still want to do this and is it worth the administrative time. We agreed to punt this to the fall for a project and focus on selling more flags for the 250th anniversary to help make up the money.
Car Show – Lion S. McCarthy wasn’t present but had asked if we wanted to do the car show this year. The consensus was yes and we said McCarthy was the chair again this year. Lion S. Camacho will reach out to him to make sure he reserves the park.

We’re hosting the February 25th Zone Meeting at Washington Electric and are responsible for food. If you’re attending, please bring an appetizer/hors d’oeuvres by 6:15 so we’re ready for eating at 6:30 and the meeting at 7:00. Please send your RSVPs and dish that you’re bringing to Lion S. Camacho.
We received 4 tickets to the Habitat dinner as part of our donation and need to give those away. The dinner is February 13th. Lion P. Byers and Lion L. Hawn will take 1 each and Lion J. Schneider will take the other 2. Lion P. Byers will provide their names, as there are not physical tickets this year.
LCIF Coordinator: Lion O. Cartmell said he received an email from International that had a great video about Helen Keller’s charge for us to be Knight of the Blind and about all of the sight saving projects we’ve done across the world. He wants to make sure everyone in the club gets a chance to see it and will share the link.
Community & Youth: Lion B. Burnworth
Lion B. Burnworth received a request from Blessing Birds for support of the annual dinner and auction. We have recently given to them but he did make a motion to donate $500 to sponsor their concession stand. Lion S. Camacho seconded the motion and will serve as the liaison for this project/event. The motion passed.
Lion B. Burnworth reminded us that we were show sponsors for last year’s Marietta High School musical and made a motion to donate $100 this year toward a full page ad in the show program instead. Lion R. Ferguson seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Lion B. Burnworth made a motion to donate $250 to the Homeless Project to support their efforts to place homeless in hotels during this cold weather. Lion J. Greene seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Membership (45) Lion G. Ingram
We added a member, Jim Jordan, who returns to Ohio from Florida. Lion G. Ingram also passed out flyers to members in attendance that outline who we are as a club so we can give them to prospective members.
Lion S. Camacho said she’s reached out to the family of Lion Maribeth Browne asking for a photo for the necrology service done at the District Convention. They have not yet responded. Lion J. Greene will pull the image from the obituary so Lion S. Camacho can submit that paperwork for convention.
Publicity: Lion S. Camacho
Lion S. Camacho said she’s been scheduling posts to our Facebook page. If you have pics or events, please get info to Sara to post. She did recently post about the OLPCF Shoe Collection drive which is a state-wide collection of gently used or new shoes. The fundraising comes as we are paid 50 cents per pound of shoes. The goal is $10,000 raised and the club goal is 50 pair of shoes. The program provides bags which hold approximately 25 pairs of shoes and Lion S. Camacho will collect them. Please bring donated shoes to meetings by May 15th. The shoes are sold to small business overseas that resell them. There will be service volunteer opportunities to bind and bag pairs of shoes.
Scholarship: Lion R. Ferguson
Lion R. Ferguson said the account had $87,783.72 in it at the end of December. Only $200 in donations were made to it last year but the gains more than covered the scholarships we paid out. The ROI is about 15% and we were at about 10% even after expenses. It’s doing very well for a fund that’s been going on for about 25 years. Please always consider donations.
Old Business:
Multi-Club Jeep Ride Fundraiser – Lion S. Camacho said this is still on hold
District Convention – March 7th – Lion S. Camacho said the 1 day convention at Crossroads in Lancaster on March 7th. We will have 4 delegates + Sara to vote this year. There is a contested race for OLPCF Chair, a DG race, an ID from Louisiana will be in attendance, and both candidates for a contested endorsement for International Director will be in attendance. It’s $100 for the full day, and $25 for the business meeting and lunch. This does happen to be the same day as the Boys and Girls Club Annual Dinner, but those who attend for the business meeting and lunch and then leave will have plenty of time to get to the dinner in Marietta. Please RSVP if you’re attending to Sara by 2/14. Lion R. Burnworth made a motion for the club to cover the $25 lunch and business meeting costs for anyone who attends. Lion Sh. Stormes seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion S. Camacho said they’ve also asked for silent auction donations. If anyone has anything to contribute, please give to her by 2/14. There is an opportunity to place a program ad in the District Convention program, which we’ve done in the past for Bridge of Heroes. Lion St. Stormes confirmed that has not yielded any flag sponsorships for us and we agreed to skip it this year.
New Buisiness:
none
We did Good of the order.
Duiring Good of the order, Lion R. Burnworth said that he was asked by Lion B. Burnworth (who had to leave the meeting early) to make a motion for a $500 donation to LCIF. Lion S. Camacho explained that it was in honor of Reed Bennett, Lion J. Greene’s nephew, who was just recently diagnosed with pediatric cancer. Lion R. Ferguson seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion O. Cartmell then asked if the family could use some of those funds directly to help with travel expenses and other costs and suggested a modification to the motion. Lion R. Burnworth amended the motion to $250 to LCIF and $250 payable directly to the family of Reed Bennett. Lion R. Ferguson seconded the amended motion and the motion passed.
Respectfully submitted, Secretary Lion K. Burnworth
