Treasurer’s Report: Lion B. Byers
The treasurer’s figures were emailed prior to the board meeting with the Activity Fund at $44,882.49 & Admin Fund at $2,730.89. Lion B. Byers said the admin fund will have the holiday part come out of it but then checks for flags should come in, so we’re in good shape. Lion R. Ferguson made a motion to accept and Lion S. Camacho seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Service Chair Report: Lion Sh. Stormes
My Very Own Blanket District Project – Lion Sh. Stormes said the blankets were do tonight and she has all but 1 set. She’d discussed with Lion S. Camacho on where blankets should got since we have 4 clubs in Washington County that are all making blankets, so we’re going to distribute some of the blankets to the counties without clubs: Noble, Monroe, and Morgan. We’ll send 50 to Noble County, 10 to Monroe County, 20 to Morgan County and 20 to Washington County.
EVE Work Day Update – Lion Sh. Stormes said she doesn’t have an update on this yet.
2nd VP Report: Lion B. Hadfield
Bridge of Heroes Update: Lion St. Stormes said we got 20-30 new brackets and extra ubolts donated. This year’s order form will be updated and should be published sometime between March 1st and March 15th. Sponsorships are the same price and cover the same 4 holidays. We’ll have the online option again this year (through Zeffy), in person at American Flags and Poles, and by mail. St. Stormes also presented his proposal for a Bridge of Heroes flag trailer which will reduce wear and tear on the flags, cut the installation time by about half, and also provide publicity with a wrapped trailer. The proposal was for an enclosed cargo box trailer with enough payload capacity to support the flags. The estimate included taxes, licenses, racks, hitch lock, caution lights, a wrap plus applicable liability insurance. Lion L. Hawn is working on the quote for covering the trailer, its contents and additional liabilities for the building. Lion S. Camacho made a motion to approve the trailer proposal so the committee could move forward to purchase what’s needed to meet the specifications. Lion B. Burnworth seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion B. Burnworth also mentioned we’d discussed selling corporate sponsorships for the trailer that could be included as decals on the trailer.
Bar Crawl: Lion J. Greene said that Lion M. Browne had mentioned at the last lunch meeting that she was interested in having a St. Patty’s Day bar crawl and would be looking for a co-chair if we were interested in moving forward. Lion. M Browne was not at the meeting to present and no one volunteered to chair, so the discussion ended.
Father’s Day Car Show: Lion S. McCarthy said that he’d originally said he wouldn’t chair the event again but that no one stepped up to volunteer and he didn’t want it to die, so he’ll be in charge again this year. He is looking for additional committee members but Lion L. Hawn, Lion S. Marshall, and Lion K. Boersma have already volunteered to help. The date is June 15th and he’s already reserved the park. He’s looking to secure the Munchies Truck again this year as well as Dan’s Ice Cream, but is interested in any other food truck ideas to get one more food truck there—please let me know if you have a contact/idea. Lion B. Byers inquired about something Dave Haas had mentioned when the Great Race Team came to present—saying they’d make a donation to the club for giving up the annual car show last year. Lion S. McCarthy will look into that.
1st VP Report: Lion P. Byers
Sight saving 3 Applications, 3 approved , 0 denied, 0 referred 0 pending.
President’s Report: Lion J. Greene – Just a reminder that she’s mentioned wanting to have a public celebration for our 100th, likely in Muskingum Park, when the weather is better (May/June). Please be thinking of ideas on what we can do and let her know if you would like to be on the committee to plan it. Lion R. Ferguson and Lion St. Stormes volunteered on the spot.
LCIF Coordinator: Lion O. Cartmell shared stats from LCIF and its worldwide reach. In 1 year, there were 1.6 million service projects, we inducted 150,000 new members, and awarded 1,500 grants worth $46.4 million
Community & Youth: Lion B. Burnworth
Lion B. Burnworth said he hasn’t received anything lately but that he was moved recently by food insecurity and did some research on local community meals and had already identified 8 but would look for more. He made a motion to donate $100/meal not to exceed $1,000.00. Lion St. Stormes said he’d double it and there was a brief discussion about the remaining balance in the C&Y budget for the year. Lion Burnworth amended the motion to $200/meal not to exceed $2,000.00. Lion R. Ferguson seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion B. Burnworth will confirm locations and get info for checks to Lion B. Byers and get pics to Lion S. Camacho for advertising/publicity.
Membership (50) Lion J. Greene said informal/impromptu fellowship events were discussed at the new ideas committee and it will be a way for us to gather in a relaxed environment and provide a place where we can invite guests to join us to get a feel for the people in the group without subjecting them to a meeting. A big thank you to Lion Steve and Shelly Stormes for sponsoring tonight’s fellowship event. We’ll have the Christmas party and then look for the next gathering some time in March. Lion B. Hadfield said it would be nice to support businesses that support our bar crawl. Lion St. Stormes also said it doesn’t have to be a restaurant—fellowship gatherings can be at people’s houses, etc.
Publicity: Lion S. Camacho said she doesn’t have anything, but please send her anything that you want posted or if you need help with marketing and publicity for upcoming projects (car show, etc)
Scholarship: Lion B. Ferguson said the balance as of 12/31/2024 was $79,757.56 and made a motion to increase our 2 annual scholarships from $1,500 each to $2,000 each. Lion S. Camacho seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Old Business:
Citizenship Essay Contest: Lion B. Burnworth said he hasn’t heard from Brittany. If they did It, she’ll reach out. If they didn’t, we may never hear anything.
Shirt Order Update: Lion S. Camacho sent out order form via email and they are due back to her by Friday, 2/14/25. Please get payments to Lion B. Byers or Lion R. Ferguson. There was a low response to the survey and mixed feelings on having a 100th Anniversary tshirt, so it wasn’t included on this order form. We’ll finalize this order and if people are interested in a separate 100th Anniversary logo’d shirt, we can always do a separate order.
Lions Christmas Party: Lion J. Greene said the part is THIS Friday, 2/7 at the KofC hall and starts at 6pm. Food is provided by DaVincis and it’s $22/person for those who RSVPd, so please get your money to Lion B. Byers. Don’t forget to bring some cash for pay to play games (super cheap) and bring white elephant auction items and money to bid. You can write one big check to Lion B. Byers for the meal and any auction items you purchase if needed. It’s BYOB and you should wear your Christmas attire. If everyone who RSVP’d shows, we should have 30 people.
New Business:
District Convention – Lion K. Burnworth said District Convention is February 28th-March 2nd and the club usually covers part of the registration cost for members who want to attend. So far, Lion K. Burnworth said she’s only had 2 members respond that they are going—Lion S. Camacho and Lion T. Henderson. Lion S. Marshall said she’d like to go to the Saturday meeting. Lion K. Burnworth made a motion for the club to cover $25 toward the cost of convention for those attending which would cover the cost of the Saturday business meeting and lunch. Lion J. Schneider seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion S. Camacho said we have 5 delegates plus her, if we can get a total of 6 members there to vote. Lion K. Burnworth will send out a separate email for RSVPs and they are due on Monday, 2/10, so we can turn in the form and mail the check in time.
Zoom Renewal: Lion K. Burnworth said the annual zoom fee is due to hit again on March 1st and is $159.90 plus tax. Lion K. Burnworth made a motion to have the cost reimbursed when it hits her card. Lion B. Burnworth seconded the motion and the motion passed.
We did Good of the order and the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Secretary Lion K. Burnworth
