My Very Own Blanket District Project – Lion Sh. Stormes said tall but 20 blankets were distributed. Lion B. Burnworth said he’d take 10 and Lion Sh. Stormes said she’d take the other 10. Please continue to work on them, as we’d like to maybe have them done by the next board meeting so that we can determine where they will be distributed and get pics, etc.
Lion Sh. Stormes said that EVE did reach out to her and they do have projects that they could use some help doing. Shelly will reach out to them to find out what needs done and arrange a work day for the club.
Lion S. Camacho said that she has the cake kit supplies and will bring those to the Friday lunch meeting for assembly. Each one will have a cake pan, cake mix, frosting, and soda along with instructions for baking and info on the club. Sight saving 2 Applications, 1 approved , 0 denied, 0 referred & 1 pending. She said she did just get another call for one, so we are continuing to see action on this front.
President’s Report: Lion J. Greene – Just a reminder that she’s mentioned wanting to have a public celebration for our 100th, likely in Muskingum Park, when the weather is better (May/June). Please be thinking of ideas on what we can do.
LCIF Coordinator: Lion O. Cartmell said Los Angeles is on fire and will need a lot of assistance. Please consider LCIF for your donations.
Community & Youth: Lion B. Burnworth
Lion B. Burnworth said to please forward any C&Y requests directly to him (not in response to a larger email thread) and put C&Y in the subject line so he can filter it out as important for review.
Membership (50) Lion J. Greene said informal/impromptu fellowship events were discussed at the new ideas committee and it will be a way for us to gather in a relaxed environment and provide a place where we can invite guests to join us to get a feel for the people in the group without subjecting them to a meeting. Stay tuned for when we’ll hold our first one.
Publicity: Lion S. Camacho said she’ll be doing a press release about the cake kits and to please let her know if you need anything posted. We will get pictures of the blanket project when we’re ready to distribute, as DG Lilaine wants pics to share at District Convention.
Scholarship: Lion B. Ferguson was not present. No report.
Old Business:
Citizenship Essay Contest: Lion B. Burnworth said he modified the documents a bit and got them sent over to Brittany at the schools for the 5th graders to complete. The word cap is 250 so it will be easier to read/review them. He’s asked that they be returned by 2/10 and plants to give out prizes to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Lion J. Greene said we’ll want to find a way to get them to a meeting or get pics with them/etc once we have the essays.
New Ideas /Visibility Committee: Lion B. Burnworth said this committee did meet and they started with the question of whether it’s marketing, membership, publicity, etc. and determined it’s all and none of those things. What the committee recommends is 1) purchasing 20 hi-vis vests and having them branded with Lion logo to be used at Bridge of Heroes, trash pick us, parades, 2) if we get the BoH trailer for the flags, having it wrapped to advertise the project and we could just light it and pull it in parades, 3) get new Lions magnets to put on the vehicles involved in BoH or parades, 4) have informal social events for fellowship with club members and a relaxed environment to bring guests, 5) do a BoH work day challenge where the trailer would be on the armory lawn (possibly) and do the work day out in front of the public and invite them to help be a part of it. We could have donated food to feed the volunteers and sell sponsorships on site that day. This could be paired with a press release and possibly a Mayoral Proclimation.
Shirt Order Update: Lion S. Camacho said she’d sent out a survey via email and requested responses by next Wednesday. She’ll have order forms to us by the end of Janaury and would expect orders to be in early March.
New Business:
105th Annual Ohio Lions State Convention Ad Space – Lion S. Camacho said we’ve put an ad in the convention program for the last 5 years or so and said we should do one this year advertising Bridge of Heroes but also about our 100th Anniversary. Lion B. Burnworth made a motion for a full page black/white ad for $100. Lion B. Byers seconded the motion and the motion passed. Lion S. Camacho will complete the form and create the ad and will let Lion B. Byers know where to send the check.
Lions Christmas Party – Lion J. Greene said that this will be at 6:30pm on 2/7/25 at the Knights of Columbus Hall and is $22/person. She has 28 RSVPs. It’s BYOB but the meal will be catered by DaVincis. We will have a white elephant auction like we did last year, the proceeds of which will be put toward the rental cost of the KofC hall for the event. There will also be a few games. It should be a good time.
Lion J. Greene said we’ll need to start thinking about whether or not we’re going to have a bar crawl and, if so, when and who will lead the committee. We’ll also need to start thinking about the Car Show planning.
Lion S. Camacho said the District Convention is at the end of February and the deadline for registration is 2/14. We’ll need to discuss the Convention at the next board meeting, as we usually vote to cover a portion of convention registration for attendees.
Lion St. Stormes said he’ll send out information via email on purchasing an enclosed trailer for the Bridge of Heroes flags so that we all have a chance to read about it before the next board meeting. Lion L. Hawn noticed the part about liability coverage for a trailer and will get a quote for that and also said we’ll need to update the estimated cost for items in the building based on the increased flags, generator, etc. He’ll work on that and get it to St. Stormes to add to the quote.
We did Good of the order and the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Secretary Lion K. Burnworth
