Lion R. Hadfield read a thank-you note received from the Marietta Community Foundation in appreciation of
the club’s donation to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Program of Washington County. Lion S. Camacho
reported that the club’s efforts to promote the donation through Facebook encouraged other local service
organizations to contribute as well, resulting in more than double the amount of donations originally received.
Lion R. Hadfield reported that, according to the latest District Newsletter, District OH7 has seen a net gain of
23 members since the beginning of the Lions year.
LCIF Coordinator: Lion B. Byers
Lion B. Byers reminded members to keep the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) in mind when
considering making personal charitable donations. Lion S. Camacho also shared that Perry County received a
$15,000 grant from LCIF to assist with local flood relief efforts and is expected to receive an additional
$15,000. She emphasized that contributions to LCIF help support important needs within our own communities,
demonstrating how donations can make a direct impact locally.
Community & Youth: Lions R. Burnworth/L. Hawn
Habitat for Humanity Fundraising Dinner: Lion L. Hawn presented additional information regarding the Habitat
for Humanity fundraising dinner sponsorship opportunity discussed at the previous Board meeting. He reported
that several sponsorship levels are available, providing alternatives to the originally proposed $4,000
sponsorship. The Board agreed to continue reviewing and discussing the available options, as there is still time
to make a decision regarding the club’s participation.
Peoples Bank Theatre Holiday Sponsorship: Lion L. Hawn reported that the cost to renew the club’s holiday
sponsorship with Peoples Bank Theatre, which the club participated in last year, is $600. Lion L. Hawn made a
motion to approve the $600 sponsorship payment, and Lion R. Ferguson seconded the motion. The motion
passed.
Three Little Birds Holiday Helpers: Lion S. Camacho reported that TLB Holiday Helpers will only be accepting
as many children into this year’s holiday program as they have confirmed sponsors. Last year, the club
sponsored several children and provided additional last-minute assistance when the number of children
exceeded the available sponsors. This year, the sponsorship cost is $100 per child. Lion S. Camacho made a
motion for the club to sponsor 15 children, totaling $1,500, and Lion Sh. Stormes seconded the motion. The
motion passed. Lion S. Camacho will send out an email with additional information regarding the program.
Levee Bench Sponsorship: Lion G. Ingram contacted the Board via email with a proposal for the club to
sponsor a bench at the new Marietta levee. The estimated cost for a new bench and sponsorship would be
approximately $2,200. Lion B. Byers made a motion to approve the sponsorship, and Lion R. Ferguson
seconded the motion. Following discussion, the Board expressed concerns regarding the high cost and felt the
funds could be better utilized toward the club’s service projects and community needs. The motion failed.
Blessing Birds Donation: The club received a letter from Blessing Birds requesting a donation to help cover the
cost of books for children who may not have the financial means to participate in their school’s fall book fair.
The goal is to ensure that no child goes without the opportunity to select a book. Lion S. Camacho made a
motion to donate $250 toward the effort, and Lion K. Burnworth seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Halloween in the Park Donation: The Board discussed the club’s annual donation to Halloween in the Park. The
club will contribute $250 to help support the various festivities and activities planned for the event. Since the
donation has already been allocated in the club’s budget for the year, no additional vote or approval was
necessary.
Membership (46): Lion G. Ingram
Lion R. Hadfield made a motion to drop Tonya Davis from the roster in good standing, and Lion R. Ferguson
seconded the motion. The motion passed, bringing the club’s official membership count to 46 members.
Publicity/Marketing: Lion S. Camacho
No report. Members are reminded to send any Lions-related photos, updates, or information they would like
publicized to Lion S. Camacho.
Scholarship: Lion R. Ferguson
No report.
Old Business:
District Meat & Cheese Sale: Lion K. Burnworth is serving as the chairperson for this year’s District Meat &
Cheese Sale and recently distributed the order form to club members. Orders are due by October 10th and
should be collected through Lions Club members only, rather than being offered directly to the public.
Discussion was also held about once again donating meat and cheese to a group within the community as part of
the fundraiser. Last year, donations were provided to local teachers and school staff. Lion K. Burnworth made a
motion to approve $300 toward the purchase of meat, cheese, and additional supplies for this year’s community
donations. Lion S. Camacho seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Great Race: Lion R. Hadfield reminded the club that the Great Race has traditionally not visited the same city
twice and that one of the reasons for its return to Marietta is the involvement and support provided by the Lions
Club during its previous visit. Organizers are once again looking for the club’s involvement when the race
returns. The Great Race is scheduled to arrive in Marietta on Thursday, June 24th, 2027. Due to the Thursday
arrival, there will not be a car show as there was during the previous event. The Board is coordinating to have
the Bridge of Heroes flags, which are scheduled to be displayed for Independence Day, put up early so they will
also be in place for the Great Race.
New Business:
Lion C. Archer addressed the Board to request a donation in support of the annual Christmas Day Feast, which
provides free meals to approximately 1,200 people on Christmas Day. Lion Sh. Stormes made a motion to
donate $1,000 toward the event, and Lion R. Ferguson seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Good of the Order:
Members were asked to keep those battling illnesses, as well as those grieving the unexpected loss of loved
ones, in their thoughts and prayers.
Good of the Order concluded, and the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted, Lion S. Marshall, Secretary.
